RoboBoat 2023

RoboBoat 2023 was held in-person and online at the Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida, USA, with 23 teams representing nine countries — Canada, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Israel, Poland, Puerto Rico, Turkey, and the United States. This was a record number of teams participating in the 16th year of the competition.

Congratulations to all RoboBoat 2023 teams — both in-person and online! We look forward to seeing you in 2024!

Project SeaSentinel started in November 2021 as a continuation of a high school project named USV “Czajka”, made by Igor Rusiecki and Artur Kamieniecki.  Main goal of this project is to create an Autonomous Surface Vessel capable of conducting water quality measurement operations in ports and coastal areas.  We intend to take part in RoboBoat 2023 competition in Florida, USA.  At the moment we are at the stage of designing and constructing our prototype.

Barunastra ITS Roboboat Team is a research team from Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) which focuses on developing unmanned vessels since 2012. We specialize in designing and producing ASV (Autonomous Surface Vehicle), FERC (Fuel Engine Remote Control), and RC (Remote Control) boats. Established by ITS Robotics, Metic Club from Marine Engineering, and Hydromodelling Club from Naval Architecture, Barunastra ITS has a strong commitment to help foster the world’s maritime technology advancement.

Ortahisar Creatiny Roboteam was established in 2022 within Creatiny, a technology community in Karadeniz Technical University. Our team includes engineering students and graduates from different areas who are experts in their fields.

We produced vehicles with high endurance and autonomous features and in 2022, at the ROBOIC UNMANNED BOAT PROTOTOTYPE COMPETITION organized by Turkish Defense Industry Presidency won the first place in Turkey.

Apart from participating in competitions we have also taken steps towards incorporation.

Team Autonomous Maritime Operations and Robotics Engineering (AMORE) is a multidisciplinary group of undergraduate students from Lake Superior State University. Including engineering and non-engineering students, the team has representation from several majors including Fisheries and Wildlife Management. In addition, members from seven countries have participated since AMORE began in 2021. After competing in the 2022 Maritime RobotX Challenge, the team is excited to build their first Autonomous Surface Vessel (ASV) for the 2023 RoboBoat Challenge.

MW in ancient Egyptian language means water. MW is a seasoned undergraduate team, based in Cairo, Egypt, representing the Military Technical College and specialized in building maritime autonomous systems, ASV and ROV. Loaded with thousands of years of ancient Egyptian legacy of ship building. Although 2019 was the first entry for MW, which was full of logistics issues, but got rewarded the rapid prototyping award. This year 2023, MW are much more into the challenge.

UM::Autonomy is an award-winning student project team from the University of Michigan. Each year we build an autonomous boat to participate in the RoboNation Roboboat competition. We aim to further the study of autonomous robotics at the University of Michigan by providing students with hands-on multidisciplinary design experience in artificial intelligence, image processing, navigation, naval architecture, and mechanical design. Each year we strive to push the physical and conceptual bounds of our autonomous vehicle.

UPRM RoboBoat is a multidisciplinary special project under the mechanical engineering department at the Univeristy of Puerto Rico @ Mayaguez. Our mission is to provide members the tools for the technical understanding of the engineering field throughout
multiple engineering branches. And our purpose is to promote and inspire females in a STEM related field so that they become elements of transformation that promote technical and humanitarian advancement.

One of our projects is an autonomous boat, which has already participated in the previous edition of RoboBoat competition.
